A Katonah museum house with imported European rooms, one exclusive caterer, and a $7,500 to $18,000 rental range on Wedding Spot.
The Rosen House is a museum and the reception rooms are exhibits. Walter and Lucie Rosen built the estate between 1929 and 1939 and filled it by importing whole rooms from private villas and chateaux in France, Italy and England. The Music Room carries a 17th century Italian ceiling and red Veronese marble columns, and the nineteen main floor rooms hold art from the 15th to the 20th centuries. Anyone can book here. Caramoor is a non profit arts centre, it advertises venue rentals openly, and enquiries go to 914-232-5035. Two constraints shape everything else. Catering is locked to one company, Great Performances, which describes itself as the exclusive caterer for Caramoor. Wedding Spot reports an event season of roughly mid May to early June and mid August to early October, built around the concert calendar. Caramoor itself publishes no season and no prices. Its own rentals FAQ renders question headings with no visible answers under them.
Caramoor publishes capacities and no money at all, and its rentals FAQ shows questions without answers. Every price here is Wedding Spot’s: a $7,500 to $18,000 rental with six hours of event time, and a starting total of $25,000 for 50 guests. Those listings are undated and may be stale. Catering is quoted separately by Great Performances, the only caterer permitted, which publishes no rate. So ask Caramoor for the rental fee and the season, and ask Great Performances for a per person quote at your guest count.
Caramoor’s rentals page, rentals FAQ, wedding stories page and the Rosen House collection page, the exclusive caterer’s Caramoor venue page, and the Wedding Spot listing for Caramoor, all read on 11 September 2026. Checked September 2026. First party means the business’s own site or rate card. Marketplace means The Knot, WeddingWire, Zola, Wedding Spot or similar. Nothing here is averaged or estimated.
Catering is locked to a single company with no published rate, and Wedding Spot’s reported season of mid May to early June and mid August to early October is narrow, uncorroborated by Caramoor, and would rule out most of July. Confirm the season before you plan anything around a date.
Walter Rosen died in 1951 and Lucie in 1968. Between 1929 and 1939 they built a house that was assembled as much as designed, importing complete rooms from villas and chateaux abroad and setting them into a Mediterranean style country estate. Lucie Rosen’s own account of it was that they built the house to be beautiful, and that they built it for music.
That is the thing to hold on to when you look at the photographs. A dinner in the Music Room happens under a 17th century Italian ceiling, between Veronese red marble columns, inside a museum collection spanning five centuries. No architect is named on the page. Ask what the conservation rules are for candles, flowers, amplified sound and anything attached to a wall, because a museum will have them even when it does not publish them.
Inside the house: the Formal Dining Room takes 50 for dinner or 65 for cocktails, the Music Room takes 120 for dinner or 200 theatre style, and the Spanish Courtyard takes 400 theatre style or 250 for cocktails. Outside: the Sunken Garden holds 400 and Friends Field holds 1,000, with a covered pavilion and tenting options.
The grounds carry more. The Venetian Theater is listed at 800 to 1,500, the Pavilion at 250 to 500, and the Diane Moss Education Center at 40 to 80, with an Italian Garden and an Italian Pavilion named but not sized. Caramoor’s own rentals page is the source for the Sunken Garden and Friends Field figures. The room by room numbers come from the exclusive caterer’s site rather than from Caramoor, which is worth knowing when you quote them back to anybody.
Great Performances states on its own site that it is the exclusive caterer for Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts, and Wedding Spot separately reports that an exclusive caterer is required. Quotes come from Great Performances directly on 212-727-2424. The only thing it publishes about cost is that catering costs vary with the requirements of the event, which is not a figure.
Exclusive catering is not automatically bad, and this is a serious operator. It does mean you have no leverage on the largest line in the budget, and it means a kosher, halal, South Asian or other specialist menu has to be negotiated with one kitchen rather than sourced from the market. Ask early and in detail. Ask what happens if the answer is no. Rules for other vendor categories are not published at all.
Wedding Spot lists a rental fee of $7,500 to $18,000 for a reception, including six hours of event time excluding set up and clean up, with additional hours available for a fee it does not state. It also lists a starting figure of $25,000 for 50 guests, which is a starting total rather than a per person rate.
Neither figure is confirmed by Caramoor or by Great Performances, and Wedding Spot listings carry no date, so the numbers may be stale. Caramoor publishes nothing on its own pages about a rental fee, a minimum, a service charge or tax treatment. Its rentals FAQ shows the questions and no answers, so in practice the venue publishes no terms at all.
The only clock anyone publishes is Wedding Spot’s six hours of event time, excluding set up and clean up. That is an allowance inside a rental, not a curfew. No end of night time appears anywhere. Noise limits, amplified music outdoors and the hour the grounds close are all unaddressed.
Ask for the hard stop in writing. Ask what an extra hour costs and when that decision has to be made. On a property this size, the answer usually involves the staffing of the grounds rather than the room you are standing in.
Wedding Spot states that events run mid May through early June and mid August through early October. If that is accurate it excludes most of July and all of late October, which are two of the periods couples ask for most in Westchester. Caramoor’s own rentals pages publish no season at all, so this restriction is reported by a marketplace and corroborated by nobody.
Confirm it before you build a plan around a date. It is the single most consequential unverified fact on this page, and one phone call settles it.
Caramoor is a working arts centre with a published programme, and that programme runs through the Venetian Theater, through the Spanish Courtyard and out into the gardens. Nothing is published about exclusive use, so do not assume the grounds are yours on a concert date, and ask what else is scheduled before you accept a date that is offered to you.
One housekeeping note. The link our source data carried for the Rosen House no longer matches the site’s structure. The live page sits under Caramoor’s own story section, and any older bookmark should be replaced.
