Access before anything else

Most directories list a country club the way they list a restaurant: photo, capacity, inquire now. That is a category error. At a private club the first question is not price or date. It is whether a member has to sponsor the event, whether a board has to approve it, and whether your Saturday sits behind the member calendar until ninety days out.

Very few of these clubs publish that policy anywhere. So we sort by access status, and no club moves into a bookable column without something we can point at and date.

Status A, outside events on the record. A published policy, a public events page, or a named person on record. As of 11 September 2026, after reading every club site one by one, this column holds 10 clubs. 3 take a booking from a couple with no membership and no sponsor: Coliseum White Plains, Lake Isle Country Club (events operated as Mulino's at Lake Isle) and The Fairways at Dunwoodie Golf Course. Another 7 publish non member language of their own: Ardsley Country Club, Harrison Meadows Country Club, Hollow Brook Golf Club, Mount Kisco Country Club, Pleasantville Country Club, Trump National Golf Club Westchester and Westchester Hills Golf Club. Mount Kisco Country Club puts it in writing that you do not need to be a member or have a member sponsor. This column was empty when we first built the page in August 2026. We read the sites again in September and it is not empty now. The full reading, club by club, is in the club access guide.

Status B, municipally or county-owned; access likelier, still unconfirmed. Rye Golf Club is owned by the City of Rye. Lake Isle Country Club is owned by the Town of Eastchester. Dunwoodie and Sprain Lake sit inside the Westchester County Parks system, which runs nearly 18,000 acres across more than 50 parks (Westchester County Parks). Public ownership makes outside access more likely and does not make it automatic, resident-priority rules and separate concessionaire contracts are both common, and the concessionaire, not the municipality, is usually the party you would sign with. Confirm before you tour.

Status C, private, no published non-member policy found. Still the largest group, at 16 clubs. They are Beach Point Club, Bonnie Briar Country Club, Brae Burn Country Club, Century Country Club, Coveleigh Club, Fenway Golf Club, Leewood Golf Club, Mamaroneck Beach & Yacht Club, Metropolis Country Club, Old Oaks Country Club, Orienta Beach Club, Sleepy Hollow Country Club, Sunningdale Country Club, Waccabuc Country Club, Whippoorwill Club and Wykagyl Country Club.

Separately, 7 clubs state that a member must host or sponsor the event. They are Hampshire Country Club, Larchmont Shore Club, Scarsdale Golf Club, Shenorock Shore Club, Siwanoy Country Club, Westchester Country Club and Westchester Country Club, WCC Beach Club. That is a published policy, so it is not Status C. It is a no.

Read that heading precisely. It says we found no published policy. It does not say these clubs refuse outside events, and it does not say they accept them. If another site tells you a member club is open for outside weddings and cannot name a source, it is guessing with your Saturday.

Larchmont Yacht Club is the one with the origin story worth knowing, and it explains the culture of the whole shoreline: organized on Memorial Day 1880 by five young men around a bonfire, and eleven acres bought in 1887 for $10,000 (The Sailing Museum). Institutions that have owned their waterfront for a century and a half do not run their calendars for strangers.

At a club, the first question is not what it costs. It is whether they will take your money at all.

If you have a member

Then you have a real option, and probably a better room than your budget would otherwise buy. Ask your member four questions before anyone tours anything.

Who signs. At some houses the member is the contracting party and you are the guarantor, which decides who is liable if you cancel and who the club chases if a deposit is late. Get the answer in writing at the point where it is still a favor rather than a dispute.

How far out the calendar opens. Member events frequently hold priority until a fixed window, which means a date you believe you have is provisional in a way no hall date ever is.

What the member is obliged to do on the day. Some clubs require the sponsor's attendance. That is a fine thing to know before you build a seating chart around it.

Whether the club's rules travel to your vendors. Dress codes, phone rules, photography restrictions in the clubhouse, and amplified-music limits on the terrace are usually house rules rather than contract clauses, which means they are not in the document you signed and are enforced anyway.

The money nobody quotes you

A club invoice carries line items no hall invoice has, and they are not in the package price.

A ceremony fee for the lawn, charged separately from the reception even though it is forty yards away. A clubhouse- or locker-room-use fee, sometimes charged per head. A cart-path or course-access charge for photographs, occasionally with a caddie or marshal billed to you as an escort. And an administrative fee that may or may not be taxable, the same question you would ask anywhere, with a club-specific twist. At a member-owned club, ask whether that percentage is a house charge routed to the club's operating account or a service charge routed to staff, because the answer determines whether tipping is expected on top of it. Get the split in writing, in percentages. The state requires that breakdown, and the arithmetic is here.

Seasonality at a club is agronomy, not calendar

A club sells acreage, and acreage has a condition report.

In the third week of October the course is the best-looking asset in the county and priced accordingly. In early April the same room costs less because the greens are brown, the fairways are being punched and top-dressed, and half your photographs will have a maintenance crew in the background.

Two questions get you the real answer, and both are known to the superintendent a year out even though neither appears in a proposal. What aeration and overseeding work is scheduled within three weeks of my date? Is the course in play during my cocktail hour? The first determines what the grounds look like. The second determines whether your photographer can walk on them at all.

The waterfront ones

The shore and yacht clubs are selling the same thing as the Sound Shore halls, light off the water, with a different set of constraints. Launch and haul-out weekends can close a lawn. A regatta can close a parking lot. Tenders and club launches run to a schedule that is not yours. If a club's own calendar is published, read it for the four weekends around your date before you fall in love with the terrace.

Roughly 36 miles of this county is shoreline and near-shore town (Visit Westchester), and most of the good stretches of it belong to somebody's membership.

How to get a club listed correctly

If you run one of the 35 and your access policy is misrepresented here in either direction, that correction jumps our queue ahead of everything else, see the corrections policy. A club that publishes its non-member policy, even to say it has none, gets moved out of the unverified column the same week. Sitting in Status C is not a penalty. It is just the truth about what we could find.

Clubs: tell us if we can book you

Several Westchester clubs are member-only and several are not, and from outside the two look identical. If we have your policy wrong, one email fixes it. If you do take outside weddings, saying so here is worth more than any photograph.
