Whitby Castle does not publish who is allowed to book it, and that is the first thing you need to know. We read the Zola listing and The Knot’s Rye venue results. We could not load whitbycastleny.com or the Lessings Hospitality Group page that Zola gives as the venue’s own website, so no first party statement about eligibility was obtained. This matters because the castle stands on the Rye Golf Club property, and Rye Golf Club is a City of Rye facility whose membership runs on residency. Neither marketplace mentions a membership requirement, and neither is the club speaking. Call and ask before you plan anything. What is published is otherwise unusually concrete. The building dates to 1852 and was modelled on the ruins of Whitby Abbey in England. The property runs to 126 acres above Long Island Sound. Starting prices are $9,500 on Zola and $10,000 on The Knot, and Zola publishes a complete off peak package at $18,995 to $19,995 for January through March.

Every number here comes from Zola or The Knot. None of it comes from the castle. Zola publishes a $9,500 starting price and The Knot publishes $10,000, and neither figure includes a disclosed service charge, so the gap between the headline and the contract is unknown. The off peak package is the sturdiest figure, and it only covers January through March. Before any of it matters, get a written answer on whether non residents may book at all, because the property belongs to a municipal club.

The Zola listing for Whitby Castle and The Knot’s Rye wedding reception venue results, both read on 11 September 2026. We could not load whitbycastleny.com or the Lessings Hospitality Group venue page from our session. Checked September 2026. First party means the business’s own site or rate card. Marketplace means The Knot, WeddingWire, Zola, Wedding Spot or similar. Nothing here is averaged or estimated.

Eligibility is unresolved. The castle sits on a City of Rye municipal golf club with residency based membership, and no source we reached says whether outsiders may book.

Nobody publishes whether a non resident can book this castle

Here is the exact state of the record. The Knot lists the venue as Whitby Castle at Rye Golf Club with a $10,000 starting price and no membership caveat. Zola lists it at $9,500 starting with no membership requirement published. That is two marketplaces treating it as bookable.

Against that: the property is a municipal golf club owned by the City of Rye, where membership is tied to residency. We could not reach a single first party page to resolve the question. Neither the eligibility answer nor its opposite is available from anything we could read. So the question to put in writing, before you tour the place, is whether somebody who does not live in Rye can hold a wedding at the castle at all.

An 1852 castle built in imitation of a ruined English abbey

The building dates to 1852 and was modelled on the ruins of Whitby Abbey in North Yorkshire. It sits on 126 acres with manicured lawns and Long Island Sound views. That history comes from The Knot’s listing, not from the venue, because we could not reach the venue. No architect is published anywhere we looked.

Two starting prices, both marketplace, and they do not match

Zola says $9,500 starting for a full wedding covering ceremony and reception. The Knot says $10,000. The table above carries both, each against the platform that published it. Neither is the castle’s own rate, because the venue publishes nothing we could read.

Nothing about the cost of an evening here is published by the operator. The minimum, the service charge and the tax treatment are all absent, and a $9,500 starting price with none of those disclosed is a number that can move a long way by the time it reaches a contract.

The off peak package is the most specific number on this page

Zola publishes a complete wedding package at $18,995 to $19,995 for the off peak window of January through March. What it covers is unusually well described. There is a five hour reception and a five hour open bar. The cocktail hour carries a champagne greeting, passed appetisers, chafing dishes, pasta and a carving station. Dinner is a salad course and a choice of three entrees. The package also folds in a DJ, photography, bakery and flowers.

That is a January to March price for a bundle that includes vendors most venues leave to you. It is a marketplace figure and it should be checked against a current contract, but as a planning anchor for a winter date in Westchester it is more useful than most of what gets published.

All inclusive means the venue controls almost every line

Zola describes the operation as all inclusive: food and beverage, rentals, bar services, catering, wedding cake, service staff and liability insurance come from the venue. Zola identifies Lessings Hospitality Group as the operator. No outside caterer option and no outside vendor fee are published.

Capacity runs to 250 seated and 250 standing on Zola, with The Knot placing the venue in its 201 to 250 guest band. There is one main event space plus two private reception rooms, and no statement anywhere that only one wedding runs at a time.

What we could not read, and why it should change your questions

Two first party sources were unreachable for us on 11 September 2026: the venue’s own domain and the operator’s venue page. Every figure on this page is therefore marketplace sourced. That is not a reason to dismiss the venue. It is a reason to treat the whole page as a set of questions rather than a set of facts.

Ask, in order: can we book at all as non residents, what is the current starting price, what is the service charge percentage, what is the end time, and what happens if it rains on a lawn ceremony. None of those five have published answers.

Add two more while you are at it. Does the all inclusive package genuinely include liability insurance, as Zola states, and what is excluded from it. And does the golf course operate during a wedding, since the castle shares a 126 acre property with a working club and nothing published says the two are separated.

Why the marketplace numbers still deserve your attention

It would be easy to dismiss a page built entirely on Zola and The Knot. We would rather you used it carefully. The two starting prices are close to each other, $9,500 and $10,000, which suggests both platforms are working from something real rather than guessing wildly. The off peak package is described in enough operational detail, down to the carving station and the champagne greeting, that it reads like a sheet handed over by the operator.

What marketplace sourcing costs you is currency and completeness. A listing can sit unchanged for a year after a rate card moves, and it will never carry the service charge, the overtime rate or the cancellation terms. So the $9,500 on Zola is worth exactly one thing: it tells you whether this castle is in the same world as your budget, and nothing at all about what it would cost you.
