Member hosted or sponsored events only. An 1898 club in Hartsdale with a Tillinghast course and a 220 seat Oval Room, publishing no prices.
You cannot book Scarsdale Golf Club unless a member hosts or sponsors your event. The club puts it in one sentence on its own Plan Your Event page: all events at Scarsdale Golf Club must be hosted or sponsored by a member. If you do not have that person, this page is history and architecture rather than a shortlist entry, and we would rather tell you now than after you have driven to Hartsdale. For those who do have a sponsor, the club is one of the older ones in the county. It was founded in 1898 around a nine hole course by Willie Dunn and went to eighteen holes in 1900. A. W. Tillinghast redesigned it in 1924, building seven new holes and revising three more. The current clubhouse opened in August 1922 after fire destroyed its predecessor in 1913. There are seven event spaces, from a 30 seat Governor’s Room to a 220 seat Oval Room. No price of any kind is published.
This is a sponsored venue with no public pricing, so the only figures that will ever apply to you are the ones your sponsoring member is quoted. Ask what sponsorship requires of them, whether the member rate and the rate for a sponsored outside party differ, and who signs the contract. Then ask the ordinary questions: service charge percentage, bar billing, hard end time, and what the 220 seat Oval Room holds once a dance floor and a band are in it.
The club’s own home, Plan Your Event and About Us pages, and the PH Event Group page for the club. We also checked The Knot, WeddingWire, Zola and Wedding Spot for a starting price and found none. Checked September 2026. First party means the business’s own site or rate card. Marketplace means The Knot, WeddingWire, Zola, Wedding Spot or similar. Nothing here is averaged or estimated.
Member sponsorship is mandatory and stated by the club. Without a member willing to host or sponsor you, this venue is not available at any price.
The Plan Your Event page states that all events at Scarsdale Golf Club must be hosted or sponsored by a member. There is no public enquiry route around it. Outside parties cannot book directly, and no marketplace listing we found carries a starting price that would suggest otherwise. We checked The Knot, WeddingWire, Zola and Wedding Spot.
If you have a sponsor, ask early what sponsorship actually obliges them to do. At some clubs the member simply signs the contract. At others they must attend, or carry the charges on their account. Those are different favours to ask of somebody.
We say this on every club page in this county and it is worth repeating here. A club that requires sponsorship is not being difficult. It is a private members’ institution whose events calendar exists for the people who pay dues, and the wedding business is incidental to that. Knowing it early saves you a drive to Hartsdale, a site visit and the small heartbreak of finding a room you cannot have.
The club opened in 1898 with nine holes laid out by Willie Dunn and expanded to eighteen in 1900. Tillinghast’s 1924 work produced the present 11th through 17th holes and reworked the second, third and fourth. A pool arrived in 1954.
The clubhouse is the other survivor. The earlier building burned in 1913 and was replaced in 1917. The current fireproof clubhouse opened in August 1922 and still stands. One of the event rooms is named for Tillinghast, which is the sort of detail that tells you the club knows what it has.
For a couple who care about the building rather than the golf, that 1922 date is the fact to hold on to. It means the rooms you would be married in are a century old and were designed as club rooms, with the proportions and the millwork that implies. It also means the usual questions about old buildings apply: lift access, air conditioning in August, and where a band actually fits.
The Oval Room is the largest at 220 guests. The 18th Terrace takes 100, The 1898 Room 80, the Tillinghast Room 70 and the Governor’s Room 30. The Lakeview Room and Terrace and the Lakeview Bar are listed without capacities.
What is not published is a separate ceremony capacity or cocktail capacity, so the 220 figure should be read as a dining number until the club says otherwise. The 18th Terrace is outdoors, and no wet weather policy is published for it.
The spread of room sizes is the useful part. A club with a 30 seat room and a 220 seat room can hold a rehearsal dinner on Friday and a wedding on Saturday without either event feeling lost. Ask whether a smaller room can be held alongside the main one for the wedding party, and what that costs on top.
PH Event Group lists Scarsdale Golf Club among the venues it works with, describes in house catering and refers to wedding, mitzvah and sweet sixteen packages. The club’s own page mentions only a dedicated team and names no outside brand.
That gap is worth closing on the first call, because it determines who you negotiate with, who writes the contract and who your day of contact will be. No approved vendor list and no outside vendor fee is published by either the club or PH Event Group.
Where an outside brand runs a club’s events, three questions usually matter. Who holds your deposit. Who is legally responsible if something goes wrong on the night. And whether the club’s kitchen or the brand’s team is cooking. None of that is published here, and all of it is answerable in one phone call.
There is no per person rate, no room fee, no food and beverage minimum, no service charge and no published end time. Enquiries go through the club’s events line. Member sponsored clubs rarely publish rates, partly because pricing often differs for member hosted events, and partly because there is no public audience to publish them for. We checked four marketplaces for a starting price and found nothing, which is consistent with a club that does not sell to the public at all.
If you have a sponsor, the practical questions are short. What does the member rate cover. Does a sponsored outside party pay a different per person price. What is the service charge percentage. How is the bar billed, by consumption or by package. What time does the room have to be clear.
Dates are where a sponsored club gets real. Member sponsored clubs run a member calendar first, which means club events, tournaments and holidays are blocked before any wedding is considered. Ask which Saturdays in your target months are already unavailable, and ask before you get attached to a date. The answer tends to arrive faster than a price does.
