A McKim, Mead and White mansion at Scarborough-on-Hudson with a 175 guest Saturday minimum and no published booking policy.
Sleepy Hollow Country Club publishes exactly one hard commitment about weddings, and it is a minimum rather than a maximum: Saturday evening events in season require at least 175 guests. The rest of its catering page is capacities. The historic mansion takes gala events up to 400 guests in season, the Club House seats 240 for dinner and dancing, and a West Terrace Tent holds up to 400 from mid April to the end of October. What the page never says, in any sentence, is whether a couple with no connection to the club may book any of it. The words member, membership, private and public do not appear on it, and there is no public event inquiry form. We read the home page, the catering page and the guest information page on 11 September 2026. So the member policy is recorded as not published. The clubhouse is Woodlea, a McKim, Mead and White mansion on the 1911 estate of Colonel Elliott Fitch Shepard and Margaret Louisa Vanderbilt Shepard. Ask about eligibility before you ask about dates.
The only figures the club publishes are people, not dollars: 400, 240 and a 175 guest Saturday minimum. The rate card is probably the 2026 catering document linked from the catering page, and we could not open it. Ask for it by name, and ask what in season means, since both the minimum and the mansion capacity are qualified by it. Settle eligibility first. A 400 seat mansion you are not allowed to book is not a venue.
The club’s home page, catering page and guest information page, plus the Wikipedia entry for the club, all read on 11 September 2026. The linked 2026 catering document could not be retrieved. Checked September 2026. First party means the business’s own site or rate card. Marketplace means The Knot, WeddingWire, Zola, Wedding Spot or similar. Nothing here is averaged or estimated.
The club never states whether outside couples may book, and a Saturday evening in season requires at least 175 guests.
Saturday evenings in season require at least 175 guests. The club states that as a guest count. No dollar food and beverage minimum appears anywhere, and no per person rate exists to multiply the 175 by, so the floor in dollars is unknown. The number still tells you a great deal. A club that sets that minimum is not built for a wedding of 90.
If your list is under 175, the questions are whether a Friday, a Sunday or an out of season Saturday carries a lower minimum, and what the club counts as in season. Neither is published.
The catering page gives the historic mansion at up to 400 guests for gala events in season. The Club House takes up to 240 for dinner and dancing. The West Terrace Tent holds up to 400, between mid April and the end of October. Smaller rooms exist for meetings. Ceremony capacity is not published separately for any of them.
Confirm what 400 means in practice, with a band and a dance floor and a ceremony all sharing one footprint, because a gala capacity and a wedding capacity are rarely the same number.
The West Terrace Tent runs mid April to the end of October. Heating and cooling for it come through an outside vendor at additional cost, in the club’s own words. That is the only vendor detail the club publishes anywhere, and it is a cost detail, not a policy.
April and late October are both climate control months in this county. If the tent is your room, price the heating before you fall for the view, and ask whether the vendor is chosen by the club or by you.
The catering page links a document called The Sleepy Experience 2026. It is very likely the rate card. It could not be retrieved from our environment on 11 September 2026, so nothing from it is reported here. We would rather tell you the document exists than pretend the club publishes nothing.
If you reach the club, ask for that file by name. It is the fastest route to the per person rate, to the service charge, to the tax treatment and to the terms, none of which appear on the public pages.
The club was founded in 1911 on the Woodlea estate of Colonel Elliott Fitch Shepard and Margaret Louisa Vanderbilt Shepard. The clubhouse is the mansion itself, designed by McKim, Mead and White, with W. R. Mead supervising.
The course was laid out in 1911 by Charles B. Macdonald and Seth Raynor, updated by A. W. Tillinghast in 1935, and redesigned from 18 holes to 27 by Gil Hanse around 2008. That history comes from Wikipedia rather than from the club’s own pages, and we label it as such. The club does publish a historical overview of its own.
First, the name collides. A WeddingWire listing under Sleepy Hollow Country Club refers to a club in Stouffville, Ontario, and sleepyhollowgolfclub.com is a different club again. We found no Knot, WeddingWire, Zola or Wedding Spot listing with a starting price for the Westchester club.
Second, the address is written two ways. The club gives Sleepy Hollow, NY 10591. Our source dataset gives Briarcliff Manor, NY 10510. Both point at 777 Albany Post Road at Scarborough-on-Hudson, and both are Westchester County. It is one property with two postal habits.
The guest information page sets out dress code and mobile phone rules for members, their families, guests and child care providers. That is about conduct on the property and says nothing about who may host an event. No other page addresses it. Wikipedia describes the club as private, which is a description and not a booking policy.
So the first call decides everything. Ask whether a non member may hold a wedding here, and if a member must sponsor it, ask what the club requires. Every capacity on this page is academic until that is settled.
